Indian restaurants like Haveli Vegetarian Cuisine are a great choice if you are a vegan. This is because Indian cuisine is highly influenced by the vegetarian aspect of the Hindu religion. You will often find an Indian restaurant that is completely vegetarian. Of course, if you're a vegan, then you have to be selective. There are many Indian dishes that are made with cheese, yogurt, or ghee. However, there are some very popular dishes that are completely vegan.

Here is a list of some of the popular vegan meals you should look for.

Aloo Baingan

This is a potato and eggplant dish. The tomatoes and eggplant are cubed, and then simmered in a tomato sauce. The spices used include cumin, turmeric, ginger and coriander. The dish is often served with basmati rice. The dish is spicy, due to the green chili. If you don't like spicy dishes, then you should ask the waiter to have the cook leave out the chili. Most Indian restaurants are happy to alter the heat level to satisfy the customer.

Baingan Bharta

This is a very popular eggplant dish. Unlike Aloo Baingan, the eggplant in this dish is mashed into a puree. In addition to eggplant, red peppers are cooked and also mashed into the dish. The spices include cumin, ginger, and garam masala. This dish is often served with roti, an Indian flat bread.

Bhindi Masala

Bhindi is the Indian word for okra. In this recipe, the okra is chopped into small cubes then breaded and fried. Peppers, mango powder, chili peppers, cumin and coriander are added. This meal is served with basmati rice. It is also a spicy dish. If you prefer a milder version, ask the waiter to have the chef leave out the chili peppers.

Chana Masala

This dish is very popular in Punjabi culture. It is made using chickpeas. If you are looking for a high protein meal, then this is perfect. The chickpeas are sauteed in a tomato broth. Pomegranate seed, mango flour, and spices are added to the broth. The dish simmers until it is very dry. You will often see this served with basmati rice or bread, depending on the restaurant.

Puri is a deep fried bread. It has a very interesting appearance. It is served hot, right from the fryer. It resembles a balloon. There is a giant pocket of air inside the dough. When you cut into it, it deflates. This bread is normally not served with most meals; you will have to order it special. It is worth it, though, because there is no other bread like it.
